Drone hunter

In the Netherlands, birds of prey are trained to intercept and safely bring down mechanical drones.

Back in the USA, we work at desks on other people's projects. Before, my work was to be a cog in a machine, but that machine worked and other people made modest returns and I had a lifestyle and a role I accepted and enjoyed. I respected the others in the company and the company's challenges were "our" challenges and we lamented about some external forces but mostly, we just worked and made returns and came home after the days work was over.

Now, my work is very different. I answer to a president or ceo or whatever who's mood swings reverberate throughout the employee ranks. From the boss's most trusted leaders to the lowest paid individual in the building, if she was in a bad mood, everyone else has to be in a bad mood to. If the boss is bullish, everyone needs to ring more cowbell. One day we are planning aggressive growth; the next, we are cutting 30% of the expenses in the company. Other chief leaders in the company are similarly bipolar, with text messages, internal IMs, chats, emails, and phone calls going every which way accomplishing nothing except for the frying of the nerves of all the people involved. "California are on mandatory 8-8 workdays" we are told, as if that is to inspire us to work harder, better. California must really want to win, while in Colorado we just want to mountain bike after (or during) work hours.

There is no rythym, there is no process, there is no consistency, there is no leadership, and there is no inspiration. There is no one to learn from. This is a flaming dumpster fire in piranha infested waters with zika mosquitos and native people with spears aimed at us. We have no chance and so my own decision hinges on whether the salary and lessons on what NOT to do, is worth this energy and time.

  1. A good reminder for why I should stay in a truck. Eventually the hawks, perhaps with assistance from the ospreys, will remove these she-bosses. It may pass that a she-boss is president before this revenge of nature is to be performed.
