Rigour and Irony

There's this day and there's the past and the future. There's now, and there's then. There's contentedness, there's ambition, and there's satisfaction.

Go back to school, to geometry or math class. Chart this part. Chart how the things all relate to one another. The chart is simple and the chart shows you your own overreaction. Imagine the future, and realize, you won't wonder about what you had figured out, but what you wondered about. The interesting part won't be what you knew but rather what you longed to know.

The interesting part won't be what you knew but rather what you didn't know.

There's a range of experience. We're always "OK" and we're always somewhere between nostalgic and miserable. My bad day is melancholy; yours is a bad day with your mother; yours is a bad time from your boss; yours is a drive-by murder. There is no judge who will rule whose day was worse. God doesn't punish you for having a hard time; god punishes you when you take a shortcut. God punishes you when you ignore what matters.

Believe this because believing is the first, the last, and the best part.

  1. Man, it might be movement and speed. Once on top of that mountain in the snow, Jesus, we're populated by out own voice, that damn snow, then just the struggle to stay alive. The mountain breaks it down simple: stay alive. Goddamn I don't know if that transcendence or nothin else, but goddamn.
