Twister night at the Aphorism Cocktail Lounge

30: Others think they have evolved to a point where communication is best accomplished by throwing words at one another. This is incorrect. These others could, can say much more, can communicate with more passion, more meaning, more confidence and more assuredness with their eyes and their frames. The relative direction of the torso, the posture, the position of the extremities, and how one chooses to cover or leave uncovered the mystery underneath says more than any essay.

31: Words take and waste time, since each word takes a moment to be spoken. Reactions to words are forced by the other and this other will often misinterpret the meaning of the original words. Words are exchanged in sequence. The time spent throwing words back and forth is nearly completely wasted. Particularly as words are misinterpreted, which is nearly always.

32: Communication and messages, delivered by the eyes, the torso, the choice of dress, and the extremities, do not take any amount of time to be delivered. Clear messages can pass back and forth between two people, simultaneously. The level of clarity achieved is unmatched by language.

33: A mistake that can be made once the message is received is to overreact. To try and force the message into language.

34: It is difficult to share a laugh, though, or a dinner or bottle of wine, without words. Words are needed to dissuade the fatties and calm the men who tend to hang around beautiful women.

  1. I used to read this cunt called Derrida. Cancer got him so he's gone now, but his books are still around and they read them. Chicks, fags, and minorities all dig him because he says everybody gets the same chance, even the weakest and the ugliest and sickest. He thinks the text and language, because it has infinite interpretations is a metaphor for all of life. There is no truth so anything goes for anyone and everything is equal. We can only just interprete and re-interprete. Living in the world is simply comparative literature. See how he makes reading into politics, reading into economics--reading becomes everything.

Well, that's not how I see it. It just takes skill and charisma and power to establish truths. It also takes guts. Most often it takes will, something academics lack entirely. The weak and infirm lack it too. Because will finally is physical. Will is stamina. Will is resisting the body when it yells at you to stop. The truths that are created might not last forever (that's not the point) but they will stand out historically as truthful moments when a great will brought them forward.

But the talking and interpreting is easy. And when the talkers have convinced the physically strong to not use their strength then the talkers run shit. They run shit right now.

But when shit falls apart, as it does eventually, who do you want on your team: the talker academic or the motherfucker who's ready to get his hands dirty and bleed a little?

  2. But all language isn't shit. The best writing can be like a perfectly executed superman punch. Even with the extended windup and flying forward it can come upon you quickly and knock you out. The best writing is as physical as that, even lethal. Some people can talk like this too. Language can be physical, but this is a big subject for another day.
