Observe the herd which is grazing beside you. It does not know what yesterday or today is. It springs around, eats, rests, digests, jumps up again, and so from morning to night and from day to day, with its likes and dislikes closely tied to the peg of the moment, and thus neither melancholy nor weary. To witness this is hard for man, because he boasts to himself that his human race is better than the beast and yet looks with jealousy at its happiness. For he wishes only to live like the beast, neither weary nor amid pains, and he wants it in vain, because he does not will it as the animal does. One day the man demands of the beast: "Why do you not talk to me about your happiness and only gaze at me?" The beast wants to answer, too, and say: "That comes about because I always immediately forget what I wanted to say." But by then the beast has already forgotten this reply and remains silent, so that the man wonders on once more.

Fred's worst issues were a bad case of oneitis (Salome) and physical infirmities which meant he couldnt work out with his kettlebells or ride in the Swiss Alps. Don't listen to what some might say about his madness. It was a great man's response to the realization he would never overcome his infirmities and realize the greatness. Vinnie Van Gogh similarly tried to eat his paints, drink kerosene, and when that failed he shot himself through the chest.
ReplyDeleteTRULY THE CURSE OF THE CURIOUS AND ENLIGHTENED. Makes me ok with this middle road and middle class existence. The higher you climb, the harder you fall. In my concerns I will mimic the concerns of Rogue the Beast: water (or wind) on my face, & a skirt to stick my head under. When's breakfast?
ReplyDeleteThis is how I figure it: the middle is easy to imagine because its all around me. Anything I can imagine I can make feel as if I've lived it. So why live the scripted life?
ReplyDeleteI'd rather look for something novel at the extremes. Look for something I couldn't imagine. Of course there are risks you end early or lose your mind. But I'm not sure those risks are as great as herd that preaches staying in the middle would make them out to be. How the fuck would the average muchedumbre know shit about the outlier anyway?
Do your thing Charlie. Don't fear getting struck down. Avoid the middle.
The point as Mr Mark Twight has said, is quality over quantity. In other words, to live really fucking good, but maybe not to live very long.
ReplyDeleteA huge life is a good life. Huge and faster than fuck. Fuck em the first night, always.
ReplyDeleteOver the last 30 years a historically unprecedented debt expansion has taken place in this country. This debt expansion is the basis for the shift from manufacturing to a knowledge worker-based society. Not only has this given rise to women becoming more masculine and the superfluousness of men, but an equalization in terms of consumption between the rich and the poor.
ReplyDeleteHuge amounts of debt leveled the playing field for everyone willing to take it on. But the debt unwind, with it’s concomitant deflation, is on. The government can only backstop so much private debt before a total implosion of the dollar.
With deflation through debt destruction, industry and manufacturing will return to this country, along with tough times for all those who became indebted, and spent instead of saved. Men will be needed cnce again. Men to lift heavy things, men to kill things, men to protect women from things, men, real fucking men. Men who by force of circumstance must take what they need.
Again, ascend in the clouds and purify your soul. Then sully the soul in a socialist city. Seek solitude and make well of it with your mind and spirit. The Rogue River rushes next to you as you climb with the wind at your face.
